Guest Writer: Rachel Goldenberg

Before I started my blog, I had the thought of showcasing the writing talents of many of my friends. I'm happy to announce that my dear friend Rachel is the first (of hopefully many!) guest writers that will be featured here. I've been a huge fan of her work for many years so it is truly an honor to be able to feature her work on this silly blog I've started. Below is a poem she wrote and submitted to be featured.

Even the Earth

By, Rachel Goldenberg

There was an earthquake in Manhattan today

And I know you know this but

I’m a thousand miles away

And still I felt my brain

Shake in my skull.

Gelatinous and stuck in its own slime, a

pearl in its oyster’s shell

You’re just a surface that I touched.

Tectonic, a movement

Of my hand over the angles of your body.

I want to perforate you

Rip you clean in half

I want to breathe bad air

And never dream again

I want to beg you to linger for a moment by the door

pretend like you never wanted to leave

I want to jump ship

Bite your bottom lip as I

carve into my own olive skin.

If I’m a broken heart you’re a masquerade

And I’ve never known who you’re hiding from

So we’ll wait together for this humanness to overthrow us

For time to show itself to the door

It can’t wait for the tea to cool

Even the Earth has to move

on.
